Kelly is coming

Good news.

It seems that the Sunshine Coast will get a Kelly Slater wave-pool in the near future.

Now the problem with the existing KS's pool in California is costs.

On one hand it requires too much energy to run, and on the other hand the model is such that there's a significant waiting period between surfable waves. The water has to settle for some time before a second wave can be run with the expected quality. All this brings to cost up to 50k dollars a day, if you want to try it.

So the question is: do they have a solution for that?

Will it be a 2-sided pool like Wavegarden?

Time will tell.

Certainly, I need one right now to beat this persistent, horrible conditions..

Una buona notizia.

Sembra che tra qualche anno ci sara' una Kelly Slater wave pool in Sunshine Coast.

Ora, il problema con quella esistente in California, nata come prototipo, e' che costa troppo. Da una parte ha un consumo energetico molto alto, dall'altro il modello di fondale sul quale funziona costringe gli operatori ad aspettare alcuni minuti dopo ogni onda, per consentire all'acqua di quietarsi e garantire la qualita' voluta.

Attualmente tutto cio' porta il costo di affitto a circa 50 mila dollari al giorno, se la si vuole provare.

La domanda sorge dunque spontanea: hanno risolto questi problemi? E quando? 

Sara' diversa dal modello attuale e magari avra' due lati funzionanti come il Wavegarden?

Come al solito non resta che attendere.

Certo e' che ne avrei disperato bisogno ora, dato le condizioni schifose del mare che non accennano a cambiare.

Non sara' mai troppo presto.
