2022 starts with a bang! Cyclone Seth was here

 The festivities have been crazy.

Instead of being melting hot, the last 2 weeks have been cooler than every December I have ever saw in Queensland. It rained like hell, and the ocean has been flat. 

Flat up until last week, when the tropical cyclone Seth formed up in front of our coast and sent huge waves this direction. 

With these conditions Noosa, as always, was the only place for most surfers to enter the water safely.

Now, add the fact that Noosa in summer is always packed, really packed, that the pandemic made all QLD resident book their vacation in QLD, and then half Australia came up here as well, and you’ll get to a stand-still traffic situation that blocked Noosa for hours for several days in a row. Then also add the fact that in the water there were reaaally good surfers, but also 2 hundred more.

Mix it up, shake it, and you get the best receipt to make me stay home and give up my chances (0.001%) to score some waves.

I’ve managed to surf a bit before the cyclone, but nothing else.

I really hope to get some waves next weekend, after everyone else has been satisfied by the cyclone.

Periodo pazzo.

Di solito da queste parti ci si squaglia a Natale, ma quest'anno e' stato ventoso, fresco, piovoso, grigio e il mare piatto.

Sino alla settimana scorsa, quando all'improvviso si e' formato il ciclone tropicale Seth proprio davanti alla costa ed ha sparato onde notevoli sulla costa (facendo anche danni).

Quando si incazza cosi' Noosa e' uno dei pochi posti in cui la gente normale puo' pensare di surfare. Ed e' dove anche io sarei andato e sono sempre andato in passato. Ma quest'anno si e' avuta una combinazione micidiale di vacanza natalizie, queenslanders che sono rimasti in Queensland per via della pandemia, australiani del sud che son venuti lo stesso, e Noosa che e' sempre piena anche in fredde giornate invernali, figurati cosi'. 

Risultato: strade bloccate tutti i giorni per diverse ore, 300mila surfisti in acqua, impossibile pensare di far qualcosa.  

E cosi' son rimasto a guardare. Ho rinunciato.

Ero riuscito a far qualcosa giusto prima del ciclone, ed ora spero che tra qualche giorno, con gli altri sazi di onde, riesca a raccogliere qualche briciola.
