Meanwhile in Bali

The south sea has created some powerful storms recently.

Australia got a series of cold fronts and cold winds all across the south part and up to here in Queensland.

Then gargantuan waves arrived on the west coast (mostly underpopulated) with few images available on social media.

Now those same waves arrived in Bali.

This is Uluwatu in what is considered to be his biggest size in decades.

I'd love to hear some first hand accounts of this event!

The last guy is really surfing it, not just running for his life!

 L'oceano del sud si e' scatenato nelle ultime settimane.

Prima ha sparato venti ghiacciati su tutto il sud dell'Australia che si son sentiti sin quassu' in Queensland. Poi sono arrivate onde giganti sulla costa ovest, per lo piu' spopolata, e di misura ragguardevole altrove.

Ora quelle onde, dopo aver viaggiato migliaia di chilometri e attraversato diverse latitudini, si stanno schiantando sul reef dell'Indonesia a tutta forza.

Mi piacerebbe tanto sentire racconti di prima mano. 

Spettacolare. Terrificante. Affascinante. 

No leash, not a good idea

It seems that The Pass, in Byron Bay, is badly affected not only by the crowd, but also by those who surfs without leash.

The article in the link says that the number of incidents is raising and that locals are asking for legal consequences for those who loses their boards.

I agree.

Firstly because most of those longboarders are just acting as if they were in the 60s and they accurately dress up to give a very specific image of themselves: something like eremites looking for karma. Everything in them, sons of social media, is fake to my eyes.

Secondly because their senseless egocentrism can badly hurt the others. It is not acceptable. And after all, if you are looking for karma and the perfect wave, you shouldn’t be in the most crowded spot of the coast. Australia gives you plenty of empty, beautiful alternatives.

The girl cited in the article got some broken ribs and a punctured lung! This is just not acceptable.

This implies medical expanses, x rays, weeks of pain and possibly loss of income.

There’s no justification.

A quanto pare a The Pass, Byron Bay, paradiso del longboard, c'e' una invasione di persone che surfa senza legrope.

Si tratta di un "ritorno alle radici" di chi pratica il longboard, che per il proprio gusto personale, sceglie di mettere in pericolo tutti gli altri. 

Il problema e' presente un po' ovunque ma essendo Byron un posto affollatissimo, gli incidenti si moltiplicano, e i locals, gia' esasperati dall'invasione di stranieri, ora chiedono che surfare senza legrope diventi una offesa da codice civile.

Io concordo.

Da un lato, essendo gli anni 60 passati da 50 anni, non sopporto vedere gente nata ieri che si veste, concia ed atteggia da frichettoni per sentito dire, alla finta ricerca del karma, e che documenta tutto sui social. Gente finta come i dollari del monopoli.

Dall'altro mi sale l'embolo al pensiero di essere vittima di un incidente causato da questi imbecilli, che se proprio devono trovare il karma potrebbero andare a farlo in spiagge deserte (ed in Australia c'e' l'imbarazzo della scelta) invece che in posti affollati come il Colosseo.

L'articolo riporta l'esempio di una brasiliana alla quale una tavola persa ha rotto alcune costole e bucato un polmone! Io penso che in questi casi una scusa non basti. Qua si dovrebbe risarcire il danno: visite medice, lastre, settimane di dolori, assenza da lavoro.. 

Non e' accettabile.
