Waiting for some good swell...

It's recent news that the italian surfer Alessandro Marciano ha surfed the biggest wave ever (so far) in Nazare, Portugal.

With all respect for Alessandro, I believe this is becoming kind of pointles.

It tells nothing about the surfer (a part from having big balls), nothing about his style, his abilities, his history. 

I don't understand this business of being pushed, forced, into a wave so big that you can't actually surf it. 

This is Alessandro. He's on the shoulder, away from the lip and going straight. The wave is spilling.

If you watch the video, and the video of everyone on that wave for the matter, all they do is going straight on one side and getting out of there. 

I don't know.. not a single manouvre.. they get shot in and they rush out. A sort of Corrida (bull fight), when you let the bull pass beside you with a trick. Yes, big balls, but what are you actually doing? 

It's a world record. Fine. Tomorrow there will be another one. Don't worry. 

I believe surfing is something else.

In attesa di belle onde..

E' fresca fresca la notizia dell'onda piu' grande mai cavalcata, conquistata dall'italiano Alessandro Marciano, a Nazare, ovviamente.

Con tutto il rispetto, la notizia non mi dice niente. Sta cosa dell'inseguimento dell'onda piu' grande mi sembra diventata ormai del tutto priva di valore.

Le foto e i filmati non ci dicono niente su Alessandro. Le sue abilita', il suo stile, la sua storia. Palle quadrate, ok, ma niente di piu.

Il bravissimo Ale sta serfando sulla spalla, abbastanza lontano dal curl. Va giu' dritto in diagonale ed esce. In tutti i filmati, lui e chiunque altro che si cimenti con quell'onda, si fanno sparare a mille e a mille ne escono via. Non una manovra, una bella curva..

Un po come una Corrida, si sventola il mantello e si fa passare il potente toro accanto. Ma a parte mostrarci il coraggio, che sta facendo il torero?

E' record, ok. Ma domani ce ne sara' un altro. Da quando Nazare e' entrata nel radar, due volte l'anno si aggiorna sto record. Nella mia modestissima opinione, non significa niente. Credo che surfare significhi altro.
