On surfboards #5

Browsing an Australian magazine I found this article:

 

 

The issue of obsolete technology in surfboards comes up often.
The epoxy mass production of surfboard is a first solution* to out-of-date methods, but I believe surfboard should have better materials and more features, like anti slippery surface, studied and proved effective combination of fins, channels, flexy tails and so on.
But again, surfing lives in a sort of weird limbo.

 

 

*let's leave aside the environment and all sort of things for now

Ho trovato questo articolo casualmente su una rivista di scienze australiana.

 

 

Il tipo afferma, come dico sempre, che la tecnologia per produzione di tavole da surf e’ ferma da 50 anni.
Ultimamente la produzione in catena di tavole epoxy ha riavvicinato la micro industria delle tavole alla modernita’*, ma a mio parere il cammino e’ ancora lungo. Le tavole dovrebbero avere una superficie anti scivolo che non richieda cera, dovrebbero essere fatte di materiali piu’ moderni, piu’ resistenti, flessibili e leggeri, studi conclusivi dovrebbero dimostrare l’efficacia di soluzioni empiriche come I channels, le flexy tails, flexy fins, etc.
Invece si va avanti a raschiare polistirolo, in un limbo auto celebrato. Mah.

 

*Non discutiamo qua di sostenibilita' e problemi sociali..

Surf Lakes in Brisbane?

I found this some weeks ago.

A crowdfunding project to create a surf park near Brisbane, QLD.

If that works as they  say I'll be very happy to spend some times in there.

Unfortunately it will never happen soon enough..

Ho appena trovato a notizia vecchia di qualche mese di un progetto per creare un surf park da queste parti. Stranamente non ne ho sentito parlare al tg ma in questi mesi spesso non guardo la tv per giorni.

Se funzionasse davvero sarei felice di andarci.

Sfortunatamente non accadra' mai troppo in fretta, ci vorranno anni..

That moment - Quel momento

That moment.

When the wave is a bitch, straight up and vertical, on few inches of water.
When your longboard barely fit in it.
When you try hard and in a split second your board is already sideways and ready to go.
When that hot girl looks at you and (may) thinks: wow! is he actually making it?
When the guy down there is paddling and watching at you and thinks: wtf! is he actually making it?
When the sun shines.
When the wave is crystal clear.
When life is bautiful.

That moment when you are an istant away of being a hero. Or from disaster.

Quel momento.

Quello quando l'onda e' una bastarda, subito verticale, in pochi centrimeti d'acqua.
Quando il tuo longboard ci sta a malapena.
Quando ci provi lo stesso e dai il massimo e in un attimo l'hai girato e sei pronto ad andare. 
Quando la gnocca accanto a te ti guarda sorpresa e pensa (forse): wow, ci riesce per davvero?
Quando il tipo piu' in fondo rema, si gira, ti vede e pensa: cazzo, ci riesce per davvero?
Quando il sole splende.
Quando l'acqua e' fantastica.
Quando la vita e' bella.

Quel momento, quando sei ad un soffio dall'essere eroe. O ad un soffio dal disastro..
